Eti Bakır Provides Fertilizer Support for Agricultural R&D in the Black Sea Region
Eti Gübre, the fertilizer brand of Eti Bakır, has partnered with the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute, the most comprehensive agricultural R&D organization in the Black Sea region. As part of the collaboration, Eti Bakır will provide the 22 tons of fertilizer required annually by the institute.
Continuing its efforts to support Turkish agriculture, Eti Gübre has taken an important step to support the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute, which plays a leading role in the country’s agriculture through its R&D and innovation activities and develops solutions to challenges in the sector. Under the cooperation agreement signed by Associate Professor Dr. İlyas Deligöz, Director of the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute, and Ali Yılmaz, Operations Manager of the Eti Bakır Samsun Smelting and Electrolysis Plant, Eti Bakır will meet the institute’s annual fertilizer requirement of 22 tons, supporting research into crops grown in the Black Sea region.
Associate Professor Dr. İlyas Deligöz, Director of the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute, explained that they conduct extensive breeding studies on field crops and fruit genetic resources to preserve the region’s agricultural biodiversity:
“We have preserved nearly 1,000 genetic materials of region-specific crops, including rice, bread wheat, soybeans, chickpeas and corn. We also conduct research on pasture, rangeland and forage crops used for animal nutrition. We have preserved more than 1,000 local genetic materials of white clover, orchard grass and fescue.
“At our stations in Tekkeköy, Çarşamba, Bafra and Vezirköprü, we have catalogued and secured 800 fruit genotypes. These include fruits specific to the Black Sea region, such as persimmon, chestnut, fig, olive, mulberry, apple, tea, cherry laurel, cherry and hazelnut. We would like to thank Eti Bakır for supporting us in all these efforts.”
“OUR SUPPORT FOR R&D WILL CONTINUE”
Ali Yılmaz, Manager of the Eti Bakır Samsun Smelting and Electrolysis Plant, emphasized the importance of scientific research in the development of agricultural production, saying:
“Like all Cengiz Holding group companies, we attach great importance to R&D activities in order to increase production and efficiency. For this reason, we are very pleased to have joined forces with the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute, which shares our commitment to research and development in its field and serves 15 provinces across the region.
“We believe the fertilizer support we are providing to the institute will contribute to its ongoing R&D and innovation activities. In the coming period, we will continue to support agricultural production and research activities.”
The collaboration between the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute and the Eti Bakır Samsun Plant is expected to grow stronger in the coming period. The two organizations aim to expand their cooperation on joint initiatives that will contribute to regional agricultural development.
