Eti Bakır to Educate 6,813 Students This Year for a Sustainable Future
Focusing on people at the heart of production, Eti Bakır contributes to building environmental awareness at an early age for a sustainable future. Through its “Environmental Inspectors” project, the company continues to deliver trainings covering 11 topics ranging from environmental awareness to recycling. Eti Bakır aims to reach 6,813 students across 7 provinces this year.
As one of Türkiye’s largest industrial enterprises and a group company of Cengiz Holding, Eti Bakır continues the “Environmental Inspectors” project across all its facilities for a sustainable future. With trainings covering 11 topics such as environmental awareness, conservation of nature and recycling, Eti Bakır aims to reach a total of 6,813 students in 121 schools across 7 provinces—Kastamonu, Artvin, Samsun, Siirt, Adıyaman, İzmir and Mardin—raising awareness among children about environmental responsibility. Eti Bakır’s Environmental Director Yusuf Topçu emphasized the importance of educating future generations to ensure access to accurate information and societal sustainability, saying:
“Today, environmental awareness is gaining increasing importance. Passing this awareness on to students, ensuring they adopt sustainability principles and helping nurture environmentally conscious leaders for the future are responsibilities that fall on us—not only as a company, but as individuals living on this planet. We launched the Environmental Inspectors project three years ago at our Mazıdağı Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Plant in Mardin with this purpose.”
“WE ARE EXPANDING IT STEP BY STEP”
Explaining that the project now covers all seven provinces where Eti Bakır operates, Topçu continued:
“Starting with schools closest to our facilities, we expanded step by step—first across districts and then entire provinces. In this project, environmental engineers working at our facilities act as volunteer trainers. In our trainings that encourage young students to protect all components of nature, we explain the difference between waste and garbage. In the zero-waste and recycling module, we use an engaging animation to highlight the importance of separating waste at its source. After covering tips on water and energy conservation, our colleagues answer all student questions, helping foster environmental awareness.” Topçu also underlined that most waste generated during production at Eti Bakır facilities is evaluated as “by-product,” adding:
“By applying circular-economy principles across our production processes, we recover the metals contained in these ‘by-products’ and further increase our contribution to the economy. Being able to pass this mindset—which creates significant value in our business processes—on to young people gives us great hope and happiness.”
