Eti Bakır R&D Center Officially Registered

Eti Bakır’s R&D Center has been officially registered by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. With its ties to the academic community now formally established, the Eti Bakır R&D Center will increase the number of projects it develops in collaboration with universities both in Türkiye and abroad.

Located in Samsun, the Eti Bakır R&D Center received its “R&D Center” certification as of January 30, 2026, following inspections conducted by the Ministry of Industry and Technology under Law No. 5746. With this certification, the Eti Bakır R&D Center will have easier access to the high-tech devices and equipment required to strengthen its technical capabilities. With its technology development capabilities, the center is also set to become a technical powerhouse for the entire mining industry in Türkiye.

Eti Bakır R&D Director İbrahim Göktaş said that obtaining R&D Center status is not a destination, but rather a visa for competing on the global stage, adding:

“This title will take us from being a ‘problem-solving’ organization to becoming a ‘technology-developing’ one. The greatest value it will bring us is institutionalization and discipline. We are combining the wealth beneath the ground with the knowledge and science above it.

“Thanks to this certification, we will have easier access not only to qualified human resources but also to funds and grant programs specifically established for R&D centers. Every project we participate in with our certification will pave the way for a new project.”

UNIVERSITY–INDUSTRY COLLABORATION PROJECTS

Göktaş noted that the certification has formally established the ties between the academic community and the Eti Bakır R&D Center, adding that they will turn university–industry collaboration into a business model.

Stating that the relationships established with universities will be further strengthened and joint projects will be expanded, Göktaş continued:

“The mining industry is now measured globally not only by the size of its reserves, but also by how efficiently and environmentally responsibly those reserves are processed. Eti Bakır has always approached mining from a ‘scientific’ perspective. With our R&D Center, we are now demonstrating this commitment in a tangible way.

“In the coming period, we will apply for accreditation from the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK), which will enable us to further expand our reliable activities abroad.”
