Planned Maintenance Shutdown Successfully Completed at the Eti Bakır Mazıdağı Facility
Cengiz Holding, one of Türkiye’s largest industrial groups, has successfully completed the planned maintenance shutdown carried out in June–July 2025 at the Eti Bakır Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Plant in Mazıdağı, Mardin. Throughout the shutdown period, maintenance, modernization and automation investments were implemented across production lines, strengthening the facility’s safe, efficient and sustainable production capacity. Environmental responsibility and occupational safety principles were applied as top priorities at every stage. The facility aims to continue contributing to regional development and the Turkish economy without interruption.
As one of Türkiye’s largest industrial enterprises and a subsidiary of Cengiz Holding, Eti Bakır successfully completed its approximately one-month planned maintenance shutdown at the Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Plant in Mazıdağı, Mardin. During the shutdown, extensive maintenance, repair and modernization activities were carried out across all critical production units, reinforcing operational safety and sustainability. In addition to the in-house technical team, a 600-person external support team contributed to the process. Occupational health and safety and environmental sustainability principles were rigorously implemented, and all work was finalized in line with the planned schedule.
CRITICAL REVISIONS COMPLETED TO ENSURE CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION
During the planned shutdown, comprehensive maintenance, refurbishment and modernization work was carried out across various units of the facility. In the Sulfuric Acid Plant, structural modifications were completed in the roaster units, revisions were made to the electrostatic filters, and renewals were carried out on SO₂ heat exchangers. In the Phosphoric Acid Plant, FRP coatings and brick lining reinforcements were completed, and the transition to an endless-belt system enabled increased production capacity.
In the Metal Recovery Plant, an upgrade was made to the centralized control system (DCS), and a redundant system was commissioned. Critical maintenance and renewals were completed on high-pressure compressors and drum systems in both the DCS and DAP Plants. In the Energy Facility, modernization work on turbines, generators and fan systems was successfully completed. These comprehensive efforts increased the facility’s efficiency, minimized the risk of unplanned shutdowns and strengthened production safety.
‘OUR FACILITY IS BACK ONLINE WITH A STRONGER INFRASTRUCTURE’
Bekir Kan, Operations Manager of the Eti Bakır Mazıdağı Facility, stated:
“ We completed the approximately one-month planned maintenance shutdown in line with the schedule we had envisioned. Thanks to the maintenance and modernization work carried out in our critical units, the production safety, efficiency and sustainability of our facility have all been significantly strengthened. With strong coordination and collaboration throughout the shutdown process, we have brought our facility back online with a more robust infrastructure.”
PLANNED SHUTDOWN BECAME AN INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE
During the planned maintenance period, approximately 3,000 work orders were issued, enabling multidimensional maintenance and inspection activities across different units. As a result, the facility has reached a more resilient, environmentally responsible and uninterrupted production capability aligned with its long-term safety and sustainability goals.
