Eti Bakır R&D Center Takes First Place in Four Categories in the International Laboratory League

The Eti Bakır R&D Center achieved significant success in the “Round Robin,” an international laboratory competition organized by Austrian-based Geostats, in which laboratories from around the world participate. The competition, whose name refers to a “league-format tournament” in sports, focuses on identifying the minerals contained in a multi-element sample. A total of 226 laboratories worldwide participated, with the Eti Bakır R&D Center taking first place by achieving results with zero deviation across four elements.

The R&D Center of Eti Bakır, one of the leading companies in value-added industry, has achieved an important success confirming the accuracy of its analytical work and its compliance with international standards. 

Participating in the international “Round Robin” interlaboratory comparison organized by Geostats, one of the leading accredited organizations in the global mining industry, the Eti Bakır R&D Center ranked first among 226 laboratories by achieving exact results for gold, copper, silver and lead.

Eti Bakır R&D Center Director İbrahim Göktaş explained that the result would provide an important reference for the center on the international stage:

“In the competition, samples containing different elements are provided. Each laboratory selects one of these element packages based on its area of expertise. We selected a sample containing gold, silver, cobalt, iron, sulfur, copper, lead, nickel and arsenic.

“These samples have previously been analyzed by Geostats, and the concentrations of the elements they contain have been documented. To achieve a successful result, laboratories must determine these concentrations within a range of plus or minus three standard deviations. Only one sample is provided, meaning there is no opportunity to correct the result if a mistake is made.

“Some laboratories analyze the same sample, while others analyze different groups of elements. However, if the same element is included, you compete against the laboratories analyzing that element as well. This is where the name ‘Round Robin’ comes from.

“We ranked first by achieving exact results, with zero standard deviation, for four elements. When the other elements were included, our average deviation remained within plus or minus one standard deviation.”

TO PARTICIPATE IN EU PROJECTS

Göktaş stated that the successful result in the competition demonstrates that they operate an R&D Center compliant with international standards, adding:

“We will continue participating in these competitions in the coming period. We will also launch new projects in the field of university–industry collaboration. We plan to apply for EU-supported recycling projects and the Horizon Europe program. We are also preparing for TÜBİTAK’s 1832 Green Transformation in Industry Call.

“Our success in the Round Robin has once again confirmed that our analytical infrastructure and expert team provide accuracy and reliability in line with international standards. Through the projects we will undertake and participate in during the coming period, we will further demonstrate the capabilities of the Eti Bakır R&D Center.”
