Afforestation Initiative from Eti Bakır
As one of Türkiye’s largest industrial enterprises, Cengiz Holding’s group company Eti Bakır continues to strengthen its environmental commitments through concrete on-site practices. As part of the National Afforestation Day on 11 November, the company organized tree-planting events across its eight facilities from Samsun to Siirt, planting 41,000 saplings together with nearly one thousand employees and stakeholders, thus contributing institutionally to the “Green Homeland Mobilization.”
Extending sustainable mining beyond production processes to its environmental and social impact areas, Eti Bakır held sapling-planting programs in its facilities located in Samsun, Adıyaman, Cerattepe, Halıköy, Küre, Mazıdağı, Murgul and Siirt as part of National Afforestation Day on 11 November. With the participation of employees and local stakeholders, a total of 41,000 saplings were planted, adding a new ring to the afforestation activities the company carries out throughout the year.
In its recently published first sustainability report, Eti Bakır officially announced that it has planted a total of 2.3 million trees to date. With the new plantings carried out during National Afforestation Day, this number continues to grow. The company also stands out not only with today’s actions, but with its future commitments. Under the protocol signed with the General Directorate of Forestry in October, Eti Bakır has pledged to plant a total of 1 million saplings across four different regions over the next four years, turning its afforestation efforts into an institutional long-term program.
Eti Bakır General Manager Asım Akbaş stated that the company will continue its contributions to Türkiye and nature with a long-term value strategy, saying:
“While conducting our mining activities, our fundamental principle is to use the resources offered by the geography we live in responsibly and sustainably. In this context, we have allocated significant resources to environmental investments, rehabilitation efforts and afforestation projects to date. For us, National Afforestation Day on 11 November is not merely a symbolic occasion; it is a concrete demonstration of our on-site contribution to the ‘Breath for the Future – Green Homeland Mobilization’ initiated by our Presidency. Through the planting programs held across our eight facilities, we have brought thousands of saplings to the soil. Additionally, under the protocol we signed with the General Directorate of Forestry, we have undertaken the commitment to plant a total of 1 million saplings in four different regions over the next four years. We consider strengthening the ecosystem while using resources responsibly as an integral part of our work.”
