Eti Bakır Strengthened Its Integrated Production and Sustainability Capabilities in 2025

Positioning domestic production as a strategic responsibility, Eti Bakır stood out in 2025 with investments strengthening its integrated production structure and sustainability-focused initiatives. As part of these efforts, the company commissioned a new fertilizer plant in Samsun and carried out planned maintenance and overhaul activities at its facilities. At the same time, Eti Bakır successfully reached 1 million tons of cathode copper production and published its first Sustainability Report.

Meeting approximately 20% of Türkiye’s copper demand, Eti Bakır approached its production activities in 2025 not only with a focus on increasing capacity, but also from the perspective of production continuity, resource efficiency and long-term sustainability. Through its integrated production structure extending from ore to finished product and its value chain spanning copper to fertilizer, the company continued to contribute to strengthening domestic production of strategic industrial inputs and fertilizers.

Commenting on the company’s approach throughout 2025, Eti Bakır General Manager Asım Akbaş said:

With the new fertilizer plant we commissioned in Samsun, we transformed the circular economy approach into a tangible application at the intersection of industry and agriculture.

“We view domestic production not merely as a need of today, but as a strategic responsibility toward our country’s future. In line with this vision, we will continue our operations with a production model that reduces environmental impacts and creates long-term value.”

INTEGRATED PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES STRENGTHENED WITH 1 MILLION TONS OF CATHODE COPPER PRODUCTION

In line with its strong technical infrastructure and sustainable production approach, Eti Bakır has reached 1 million tons of cathode copper production to date. Produced at 99.99% purity (LME Grade A) in accordance with international standards, the cathode copper provides uninterrupted and reliable supply to a wide range of strategic industries, particularly energy, cable manufacturing, automotive and electronics.

This production volume demonstrates Eti Bakır’s capacity to manage large-scale production through an integrated structure, its commitment to operational continuity, and its significant contribution to domestic production of strategic industrial inputs.

INFRASTRUCTURE STRENGTHENED FOR SUSTAINABLE DOMESTIC PRODUCTION

In line with its objective of ensuring the uninterrupted and secure continuation of domestic production, Eti Bakır carried out a planned maintenance shutdown at its Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Plant in Mazıdağı, Mardin, during the summer of 2025.

Maintenance, modernization and automation activities increased the facility’s production safety and efficiency, while the planned shutdown was completed in a manner that supported production continuity.

NEW FERTILIZER PLANT COMMISSIONED IN SAMSUN

A new fertilizer plant integrated into the Samsun Smelting and Electrolysis Plant commenced production in 2025. Developed with an investment of approximately $300 million, the facility has an annual DAP fertilizer production capacity of 450,000 tons.

With this investment, Eti Bakır’s total annual fertilizer production capacity reached 850,000 tons, while the company has surpassed 3 million tons of total fertilizer production since it began operations.

The integrated facility produces DAP and NP-group fertilizers. Through a value-added production chain established between industry and agriculture in line with the circular economy approach, the company makes a significant contribution to the domestic and sustainable supply of agricultural inputs.

SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCE SHARED COMPREHENSIVELY FOR THE FIRST TIME

With its first Sustainability Report published in 2025, Eti Bakır publicly disclosed its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance within a comprehensive framework for the first time.

Prepared in accordance with international reporting standards, the report marked an important milestone in the institutionalization of the company’s sustainable business model. Energy efficiency projects contributed to preventing 12,672 tons of carbon emissions, while system improvements in water management resulted in 3.2 million cubic meters of water savings.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONTRIBUTION ENHANCED THROUGH AFFORESTATION ACTIVITIES

As part of National Afforestation Day on November 11, Eti Bakır extended its environmental responsibility initiatives to the field through afforestation activities at eight of its operations, spanning from Samsun to Siirt.

A total of 41,000 saplings were planted with the participation of employees and local stakeholders. The company also disclosed in its Sustainability Report that it has planted a total of 2.3 million saplings to date.

Under a protocol signed with the General Directorate of Forestry, Eti Bakır plans to continue its afforestation efforts as an institutional program, with the aim of planting 1 million saplings across four different regions over the next four years.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS TRAINING PROGRAMS EXPANDED

As part of the “Environmental Inspectors” project launched by Eti Bakır in 2021, educational initiatives aimed at raising environmental awareness among children and young people continued throughout 2025.

During the 2024–2025 academic year, the project reached 3,448 students across 82 schools in Adıyaman, Artvin, İzmir, Kastamonu, Mardin and Siirt. Since its launch, the total number of students reached by the project has risen to 7,154.

The initiative, in which engineers working at Eti Bakır participate on a voluntary basis, enables the company’s environmentally responsible production approach to be sustained as a long-term educational program.

SUPPORT FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE SITES CONTINUED

Eti Bakır continued its support for cultural heritage sites located in the regions where it operates in 2025. Within this framework, the company supported archaeological excavations at İkiztepe Mound in Samsun, İnkaya Cave in Çanakkale, and Salkaya in Elazığ, contributing to the continuation of scientific research at these sites.

Looking ahead, Eti Bakır aims to continue investments that strengthen its domestic and integrated production capacity, reduce environmental impacts and create value for society. In line with its sustainable mining approach, the company aims to establish a long-term value chain based on a balance between industry, agriculture and the environment, while integrating this approach across all areas of its operations, from production processes to human resources.
