Eti Bakır’s New Fertilizer Facility Begins Production

Eti Bakır, Türkiye’s only company capable of producing from ore to final product, has begun production at its newly built fertilizer plant, integrated into the Samsun Smelting and Electrolysis Facility with an investment of USD 300 million. With a production capacity of 450,000 tons, the new facility will increase Eti Bakır’s total annual DAP fertilizer production capacity to 850,000 tons.

As one of the leading companies in value-added industry, Eti Bakır has added a new contribution to Türkiye’s agricultural sector. The fertilizer plant, established with a USD 300 million investment and integrated into the Samsun Smelting and Electrolysis Facility, has officially begun production. Depending on market needs, the facility can produce either 450,000 tons of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer or 720,000 tons of NPK compound fertilizer annually, providing crucial support to Turkish farmers.

Highlighting that fertilizer is a strategic product for Türkiye, Eti Bakır General Manager Asım Akbaş stated: “Our primary and most important goal in fertilizer investments is to support Turkish farmers and the agricultural sector of our country. Türkiye has a fertilizer market of around 6 million tons, with DAP fertilizer accounting for nearly 650,000 tons of this. Our Samsun and Mazıdağı facilities are fully equipped to produce both types of fertilizer. Therefore, whatever the market needs, we will be ready to produce it. ”Akbaş continued: “For a country with high potential like Türkiye, fertilizer production and efficient fertilizer use are critical for the sustainability of agriculture. However, due to limited domestic production, fertilizer often remains on the national agenda with issues related to insufficient supply and fluctuating prices. We are one of the companies focusing directly on this area—expanding investments to ensure that our farmers can access domestically produced fertilizers at more affordable prices.

Through domestic fertilizer production at our facilities in Mardin and Samsun, we contribute to the development of the agricultural economy. At the same time, through our circular economy model, we offer fertilizers to the market at cost-effective prices, continuing our support for farmers. We believe that the advancement of sustainable agriculture will accelerate as Turkish farmers gain easier access to affordable fertilizer.”

FOUR-STAGE TREATMENT SYSTEM

The new fertilizer facility, with 70,000 square meters of indoor space, can produce 2,000 tons of fertilizer per day. The plant consists of 10 sections: two fertilizer storage areas, silo storage, a mill, auxiliary units, the DAP building, phosphoric acid area, switchgear building, locker rooms and packaging units. Equipped with the latest technologies, the facility stands out for its high efficiency. Through conveyor lines integrated into the fertilizer facility, raw materials arriving from the port are transferred directly to the production line via fully automated belts. If needed, fertilizer exports will also be carried out through this conveyor system. With its four-stage treatment system, the new facility maintains flue gas emissions well below European standards. The raw material storage area consists of state-of-the-art silos, preventing the spread of materials into the environment and eliminating dust dispersion.
